Voynette Hamilton - Hairbrained Awards

Among this year’s nominees of the Hairbrained Awards is a stylist whose journey is as compelling as it is unique. Starting from a young age with a deep-seated passion for hairstyling, Voynette Hamilton navigated an intriguing detour through the medical field before wholeheartedly embracing their true calling at the esteemed Vanguard Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology. Their story is a reminder of the diverse paths that can lead to success in the creative world of hair artistry.

Set in the lively and culturally rich city of New Orleans, Louisiana, this nominee’s work reflects a dedication not just to the craft of hairstyling but to the community that surrounds it. From high-profile beauty pageants to meaningful engagements with local charities, their approach to hairstyling goes beyond mere aesthetics. It’s about making a difference, one haircut at a time, and embracing every opportunity to empower and uplift those they work with. As we look forward to the Hairbrained Awards, we celebrate the blend of skill, passion, and community impact that this nominee brings to the table.

Could you guide us through the journey of bringing your Hairbrained Awards video to life, from initial concept to final cut?

Bringing the Hairbrained Awards video to life involved meticulous planning and attention to detail. Initially, I envisioned creating a tutorial-style video that would not only showcase a versatile hairstyle but also serve as a comprehensive guide for non- professionals. The chosen style was simple yet elegant, allowing for multiple variations that clients could easily recreate at home.

To ensure clarity and precision, I focused on outlining each step of the hairstyling process, from start to finish. This included demonstrating how the style could be worn as presented or transformed into a twist-out for added versatility. As someone with limited editing experience, I prioritized simplicity in the editing process, aiming to de- liver a seamless and informative viewing experience for my audience.

Throughout the journey, the emphasis remained on showcasing the precise steps involved and the final look, thereby empowering viewers to replicate the style with confidence. The collaborative effort from conceptualization to the Final Cut aimed to inspire and educate, reflecting the essence of the Hairbrained Awards and my com- mitment to excellence in hairstyling education.

What has been the most challenging aspect of creating your nominated work, and how did you overcome it?

The toughest part of crafting my nominated work was summoning the courage to actually submit it. Every year, I'd toy with the idea of entering it for the Hairbrained Awards, only to back out at the last minute. It was a battle against my own doubts and insecurities, a struggle to believe in both myself and my craft. But I realized that to move forward, I had to trust in my abilities and take that leap of faith. So, I mustered up all my courage and submitted my work, embracing the vulnerability that comes with putting yourself out there. It's a journey of self-discovery and growth, a reminder that sometimes the biggest obstacle we face is our own fear.

What message or advice would you like to share with your peers in the hairdressing community, especially those aspiring to be nominated for future Hairbrained Awards?

I want to share a message that's close to my heart, especially for those aspiring to be nominated for future Hairbrained Awards: Believe in yourself. Own your craft with confidence. Trust in your abilities and talents. It's okay to feel scared, but don't let selfdoubt hold you back. Take that leap of faith and embrace the journey ahead. You've got this!

What are your thoughts on the impact of social media and digital platforms in shaping the careers of today's hairdressers and artists?

Social media and digital platforms have significantly influenced the careers of hairstylists and artists. They provide a powerful platform to showcase skills, share creations, and connect with a global audience. Many stylists leverage platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to share tutorials, display portfolio work, and engage with potential clients. It's a dynamic way to build brand awareness, attract new clients, and stay updated on industry trends.

What role do you see Hairbrained and similar platforms playing in the future of the beauty and hairstyling industry?

Hairbrained and similar platforms are likely to play a significant role in the future of the beauty and hair styling industry by providing professionals like me with a dynamic space to connect, learn, and showcase their expertise.
