In the heart of the hairdressing world, a revolutionary spirit is making waves, quite literally. Enter Mona Baltazar, a maverick from the sun-kissed shores of Ilocos Norte, Philippines, whose journey has led her to a prestigious nomination at the 10th annual Hairbrained Awards. With a career spanning two decades, Mona is not just a stylist; she's a visionary, a curl whisperer whose hands bring out the soul of every spiral.

At a time when the industry buzzed with the hum of straighteners, Mona chose a different tune - the melody of curls. Her creation, The Mona Cut Academy™, is not just an institution; it's a sanctuary where curls are not tamed, but taught to sing. As we gear up to celebrate a decade of hair artistry at the Hairbrained Awards on March 3 in NYC, Mona Baltazar stands as a testament to the beauty of diversity and the power of embracing one's true self. Join us in exploring the curls, coils, and remarkable tales of Mona, a nominee who's redefining the canvas of hairdressing, one curl at a time.

Can you reveal an unexpected muse or wild spark of inspiration that played a pivotal role in shaping your nominated video?

The video I submitted was part of the release to The Mona Cut Academy. I created 5 different Icons, and this particular video is Da Calla.

The Hairbrained community is known for its creativity and innovation. How do you think being a part of this community has helped you push the boundaries of your craft?

Yes, I have been a big supporter of HB, they do bring in a tight community for all passionate hairstylist.  They keep it classy and real.  I like how they create personal relationships with their community.  HB has always supported my growth as a curly cutter in this industry.  Gerard pushed me to get on stage and not be afraid to teach.  He really made me feel that confident and reassurance and supported me in many ways.

In your opinion, what are the key qualities that set a Hairbrained Awards submission apart and make it stand out to the judging panel?

Be yourself and be creative with your own artistic vision.  If you are good at something, showcase those areas.  Be authentic to your craft.

Share a quirky habit or ritual you have while working on your hair creations that contributes to your success.

No ritual, I take it for what it is and continue to love my work.

What role do you see Hairbrained and similar platforms playing in the future of the beauty and hairstyling industry?

I think they are already doing it.  They bring people together.  They provide free education and connect those who are like minded and are passionate about hair.

Do you have any exciting projects or upcoming ventures that you'd like to share with the Hairbrained community and our audience?

Yes! The Mona Cut Academy is now enrolling to take hands on classes in NYC, unveiling my 5 Iconic shapes. Will have certification for those who finish the program.  This is a chance for those who want to elevate their skills in curly haircutting.
